QWERTY Robotics team members spent a couple hours at the Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls club on March 27.  We brought two robots to demonstrate, talked about our experiences on the team and at FIRST robotics competitions, and even gave away some team shirts, stickers, robot paint kits, and team buttons as prizes.  The kids enjoyed learning about our team and robots as much as we enjoyed presenting!  A GREAT experience for all involved!

Below is the video we submitted as a requirement to be considered for the Chairmen's Award. The award is he most prestigious award at FIRST, and honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST. Though we did not receive the award, the experience on its submission is valuable, and helps us focus on our accomplishments and how we can improve in the future.

Match #33 - Watch our "Smokin' Bot"!!

We scored in autonomous mode and all was going great. A few seconds left in the match and the bot started smoking. Grabbed the fire extinguisher and secured all to be safe. We transported the bot back to the pit to find numerous other teams racing to our assistance. We rebuilt the bot entirely with the exception of the compressor and made it to compete in our final match #59 !! GREAT work team members! A fantastic comeback from a difficult situation. As one inspector said, "This is the most complete rebuild I've ever seen during a competition." Thanks for the Gracious Professionalism from other teams

A long day .... working in pits from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm.  We mounted the catcher, did some rewiring, fine tuned the programming, made it successfully through inspection and went to our practice round.

Several team members practiced for the Chairman's Award Presentation while others scouted and interviewed other FIRST Robotics teams about their robot capabilities. It was GREAT fun meeting other FIRST Robotics team members and exchanging buttons and team tokens.  We are excited for tomorrow's competitions to begin!

For the past several weeks, QWERTY Robotics members have been hard at work constructing a car couch from the body of a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. Once complete, the couch will be raffled off. You can buy as many tickets as you wish, and each ticket will cost $10. We will hold the raffle drawing at the DL City Park Classic Car Show on July 20.

When finished, the couch will look similar to this:
